My Son’s Eyes

Renee Pinkney’s 19 year-old son Don’Tay suffers from a mental illness. At age 15, he allegedly committed a crime during a psychotic episode. Don’Tay has been in jail for over a year without education or treatment for his illness. While waiting for a trial, Renee and her husband Joey are fighting to gain rights for their son and help him get out of jail.

It is ALL of our jobs to take care of Don Tay, not only the parents’ job. My heart goes out to all the family.

Shame on the court system for treating this illness as a crime.

As the educational system erodes every minute I am afraid we will be seeing more and more young children being locked up in jail without the medical care and rehabilitation they deserve.

    I am so, so sorry.

I completely agree. Thank you very much for taking the time to watch the piece. My hope is that stories such as this one might help to make changes in the judicial and educational system in this country.
